We recognize the importance of our customer’s time, and with that in mind, we offer the following explanation of our shelter hours.

With town contracts and donations being the large part of our income, we are forced to work with a small staff of dedicated people, and we find it necessary to close on certain days.  It is possible, although not easy, to complete our daily tasks with our undersized staff, but we simply cannot cut back on the care we give the animals.  Part of that care is the responsibility to perform regular deep cleaning of the facility, which must be done on the days we are closed for business.  We also take the days we are closed to catch up on the backlog of paperwork that is often set aside while we deal with any number of unusual incidents and emergencies that face us each day.

In addition, we provide our hard-working staff with an hour-long lunch, and we stagger the time over an hour and a half (11:30-1:00) in order to accommodate our employees. Often we are in the midst of an adoption, reclaiming a dog, or taking in a stray when 11:30 arrives, and it’s noon or after before staff is able to go to lunch.

We appreciate each and every one of you who visit the shelter and we hope that this explanation will alleviate unnecessary trips when we are closed.
